The economy of Jackson, Wyoming is driven from three main sources. The growth of the real estate, tourism, and domestic services sectors have drawn people to visit Jackson as well as stay and call it home. Summer and winter months in the Jackson area lure adventure enthusiasts to visit and explore surrounding parks, forests, mountains, and many outdoor activities.

Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks lay just north of Jackson, drawing in about three million tourists every summer. Summer park visitors are surely guaranteed to come through Jackson in need of lodging, eats, and entertainment. Local businesses like guide services, gear and equipment stores, restaurants, souvenir shops, and hotels easily strive in these summer months. Over the years winter has increasingly made Jackson a destination point for many skiers, snowboarders, and snow machine advocates. The steeps of Jackson Hole, the powdery backcountry slopes, and the mellow family runs of Targhee offer a few different skiing options for winter visitors. Many hotels, vacation rentals, and lodges are booked full during winter months.

Real estate is still booming in Jackson Hole. Much of the open space surrounding Jackson is protected under wildlife and scenic restrictions. With limited open space to develop, prices for already existing houses and lots continues to soar. Many homes within the valley easily go for over one million dollars, limiting the type of home owners that buy in Jackson to the wealthy. Other than affordable housing programs, many homes are unattainable to the average Jackson resident. This means that real estate in the Jackson Hole area is also a great investment. Real estate investors are easily able to rent houses and rooms. Building, contracting, architecture, and property management services therefore can also make a chunk of change from these wealthy homeowners.

As more visitors decide to move to Jackson, the need for domestic services has increased. Without basic services like food, transportation, clothing, utilities, technical services, and trucking, Jackson wouldn't be the city it is today, nor would it be able to provide as many jobs to locals. The sectors that contribute to Jackson's economy are all interconnected and keep this city enjoyable and livable.
