Jackson Hole is located in the northwest corner of Wyoming. The Grand Tetons form the western border of 60-mile "hole", or valley, with the Gros Ventre Mountains and the Continental Divide on the eastern side.

The valley bottom is just over 6 thousand feet in elevation. Grand Teton National Park makes up a large portion of the valley, with Yellowstone National Park just to the north. The Old West town of Jackson, Wyoming, is tucked at the valley's southern end. The Snake River runs through the middle of it all.

The State of Wyoming border lies on the other western side of the Tetons. The Idaho side of the mountain range is made up of Teton Valley, and the towns of Victor and Driggs, Idaho. This area features many of the same appealing characteristics as Teton County (Jackson Hole) in Wyoming.

Jackson, Wyoming is the Teton County seat, and largest community. Other towns in Teton County are Wilson and Teton Village (west of Jackson) Kelly, Moose, and Moran (to the north) and Alta, Wyoming (accessible via Teton Pass and Idaho). Less than 3 percent of Teton County is comprised of private property. The vast majority is public land within Grand Teton National Park, the Bridger-Teton and Targhee National Forests, and the National Elk Refuge.
